CITY OF LEÓN:

León has managed to combine the preservation of its historic and cultural heritage, including their literary tradition, with the constant renovation of its cultural facilities.

Húmedo, a traditional district with cobbled streets that are lined by stately homes, squares, and noble buildings, is the city’s most lively night spot. Young and not so young people go there during the day for the traditional tapas of cured meat and peppers, delicious examples of the local cuisine. At night, Húmedo shares its clientele with the nearby Lancia and Burgo streets. People pour in to enjoy the hospitality and fun of the local bars and pubs, the most fun in Castile-León.

After visiting Húmedo, we must see the four most interesting sights of León, which attract eddies of people all year round. Perhaps the most interesting one is the House of Botines, built by Gaudí. Gaudí’s genius put together this imaginative Neo-Gothic building, with numerous chimneys, and a steeple on each of its four corners, which give it the appearance of a fairy tale castle. Also beautiful are the colourful stained-glass windows of the Cathedral, from the 13th to the 16th centuries, which attract art historians and tourists from all over the world. Next to it we find the remains of the Roman wall, and following it we come to the basilica of San Isidoro, whose Royal Pantheon has Romanesque frescoes, very worth a visit. The basilica’s façade, or Puerta del Perdón, is the most interesting sight in the city.
